Latest Trends

Just got back from the wholesale furniture show in Mexico
and here are some of the big trends for the next year. We get a lot of questions every year about what is new, and what are the
trends here in Mexico for home furnishings.

“Grey is the new black”- Grey, driftwood stained wood furniture is
one of the biggest trends for the next couple years.Wood furniture stained to look weathered and
give the beach vibe is hot and paired with neutral earth tones (white, sand,
light blues) are one of the latest trends.

Natural wood tables, complete with knots, rings, holes
and imperfections. Another back to
nature trend.The number of
manufacturers offering parota, “slice of a tree” tables (kitchen,
dining, coffee, bar tables and benches) has grown year over year by 500%.Paired with upholstered and tufted chairs in
linen colors will be the look for the next few years.Because the natural look is timeless, there
will be no expiry date on this look. All
shapes and sizes of tables, the more irregular the shape, the better. We even saw some fusion of natural wood with
glass legs that looked spectacular!The
prices for these items run the gambit – the most important factor in
maintaining the quality of the wood top is to treat it weekly. So, a little more work on maintenance, but a
definite signature piece in your home.

Return to the 60’s! We don’t see this look being a hot one for baby boomers who lived
through the 60’s the first time around, but will be popular with the 30 year
olds.It’s furniture straight from the
TV show “Mad Men”.Minimal,
retro but with much higher quality than what we purchased when we were all
first married and starting out.This
look is currently in high demand in urban Mexican cities for yuppies.

Industrial Influence. Lamps and lighting designed to look like they were taken from a
warehouse and installed in your home.Chairs and bar stools that have metal warehouse type legs and rough
looking wood seats. One or two pieces in
the right setting can make an amazing conversation piece.

Well-Made Rustic. Stepping it up a notch is the rustic line – with the right supplier, you
can now get the rustic look, with quality stain (think termite-proof), with
sliders on the drawers (so they don’t fall out when you pull them) and high end
pulls (that don’t cost a lot, but add a whole new look to the rustic
pieces).

Dining room benches and complimenting chairs.Out are the complete sets and in are benches
on one side of the table and/or 4 chairs one style and two chairs a
complimenting style.Sets are out and
unique pairings are in!

Exciting Outdoor. Outdoor continues to expand and offer more colors and
fabrics. The demand for fabric that will
last in the elements especially ocean side continues to increase. We’re seeing more competition to the main
supplier for outdoor durable fabrics, meaning the prices are coming down for
the upholstery on cushions and investment in outdoor is maintained. Colors for synthetic rattan are also
expanding – no more just the chocolate, which is so common place – various
colors and new weaves (we saw a spectacular design that cost the same as the
standard weave but looked like it came out of a New York store). Also, seeing better synthetic weave / rattan
that will last a lot longer than what is available at box stores.

Comfortable Contemporary Comfortable sofas and sectionals but with a
contemporary look.Expanded lines of
main suppliers to cater more to the baby boomers.Sectionals that have recliners but don’t look
like your father’s recliner from the 50’s.Fabrics and designs that are so nice, they are hard to choose from, but
when you sit in them, you won’t want to get out!
