Décor Trends 2020

by | Jan 2, 2020

Already it is time to say goodbye to 2019 and welcome in the next decade. Where does the time go?  Feels like just yesterday that I wrote an article on the home décor trends for 2019. Many of those decorating ideas will continue in popularity this year. Some new twists will be of interest to those that like to keep it fresh. Let’s start with what is new in color.

One of the predicted trends that I am most excited about is the color that was chosen by Pantone as its 2020 color of the year. The color is Classic Blue (a shade of navy), perfect for our oceanfront homes. fNavy is the ideal color for a nautical themed seaside condo, whether you use it to add drama to the walls or to bring a punch of color through rugs, decorator pillows, and throws. White, weathered grey, sand, and navy offer a stunning color palette if you want to achieve a nautical décor theme.

If you read home décor magazines or blogs, be prepared to see a lot more high-contrast décor. High-contrast décor is the opposite of the monotone approach.Instead of a white chair with white or light wood, the high-contrast approach is the white chair with black or dark wood. Rather than blending, it is all about making a bold statement.

Speaking of bold statements, we are going to see black used more and more in new places. For those not skittish and love a dramatic room, black will be the new white when it comes to ceilings. The latest window frames are no longer white nor wood.Black frames are the hot new trend.

For the past decade, white kitchens were the trend. In this decade, watch for color to make its way back into this room in the home. It is no longer fashionable to have all your cabinetry the same color.Instead, you will see kitchens with one color on the uppers and another on the lower cabinets or one color for the wall cabinetry and a second color for the island.

In the living room, watch for softer, curved shapes. Instead of the traditional square lines for sofas and sectionals, the trend is curved. As for coffee and end tables, we will be moving away from lighter shades to rich, deeper color stains. This will give the living room a more luxurious feel.

Moving into the bedroom, watch for canopy beds to make a huge comeback. This time, however, forget the large headboards and heavy fabric. The canopy bed of this decade will be sleek and focus on its structure. Posts will be acrylic, modern metals, and simple lines.

Eco-friendly furniture will continue to grow in popularity. Every year, we see an increased demand for furniture made responsibly with sustainable materials and less waste. This will mean an uptick in furniture made from bamboo, jute, concrete, recycled and reclaimed materials.Rattan and wicker started their resurgence in the latter half of the last decade. Watch for them to become more prevalent in the future, with sleek new designs and styles.

Also, continuing in popularity is the approach of bringing nature inside. Leafy green pictures, floral wallpaper, tropical-colored cushions, and linens are not only the spot-on trends but perfect for homes in Riviera Nayarit.
