Pat’s life has been spent exploring boundaries of every sort. She graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois, one of only ten women in a program with 800 students. Her curriculum focused on design and included a strong base in art. She also did advanced work in Architecture at the University of California-Berkley.

As a licensed architect in both Illinois and California, Pat worked as the Project Architect on many restaurants before joining the Art Department at San Jose State University as head of the Interior Design degree program. The program grew and flourished under her guidance.

Ever seeking new boundaries, in 1989, Pat set off alone on her 31-foot sailboat to become the first American woman to sail solo around the world. On this voyage she began to paint in earnest, exploring the textures, colors, buildings, and markets of the 40 countries where she stopped. These highly detailed watercolors filled exhibitions in countries around the world and in Mexico, at the end of her voyage. In 2006, she took a new path developing her own vocabulary in abstract oils and acrylics. Traces of those watercolor years continue to influence the spatial statements of her later work. She still lives in Puerto Vallarta where she landed in 1997.
